What is a final drive?
A final drive is an assembly of gears that plays a crucial role within a machine's drive train by transferring power to the tires or tracks while providing speed reduction and torque increase. Located in the machine’s undercarriage, a final drive can be powered by hydraulics or using power transferred from the engine.
A final drive is made up of the pinion gear, ring gear, carrier gear, planetary gears, shafts, bearings, and a housing. Hydraulic units can also come with a travel motor.
