Job Description:
The roles and responsibilities below are a guideline of the position. Additional roles and responsibilities may be required.
  • Disassemble Engines, primarily, along with transmissions.
  • Inspect components to identify problems
  • Operate cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment
  • Rebuild parts or components on engines and transmissions
  • Replace worn, damaged, or defective parts, as needed
  • Reassemble after repair
  • Test engines to ensure proper function
  • Order materials and supplies
  • Assemble mechanical components and parts
  • Fabricate parts or components
  • Assessing the value, importance, or quality of things
  • Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Knowledge of Construction Equipment-wheel loaders, excavators, off-highway truck, and dozers
  • Time Management-being able to manage one’s time and those of others, as needed.
  • Judgment and Decision Making- considering the costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment
  • Operation Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Leadership and Teamwork-sharing knowledge with less experienced techs.

ABILITIES
  • The ability to see details at close range
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong
  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or holding your arm and hand in one position

EDUCATION
  • High School or Equivalent
  • Certificate or degree heavy equipment or diesel mechanics preferred
  • Two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.
  • Apprenticeship program.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment
  • Indoors, not environmentally controlled
  • Spend Time Kneeling, Crouching, Stooping or Crawling

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Lift 50 to 100 lbs.
  • 90% standing
  • 10% sitting
