Job Description:
The roles and responsibilities below are a guideline of the position. Additional roles and responsibilities may be required.
- Disassemble Engines, primarily, along with transmissions.
- Inspect components to identify problems
- Operate cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment
- Rebuild parts or components on engines and transmissions
- Replace worn, damaged, or defective parts, as needed
- Reassemble after repair
- Test engines to ensure proper function
- Order materials and supplies
- Assemble mechanical components and parts
- Fabricate parts or components
- Assessing the value, importance, or quality of things
- Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Knowledge of Construction Equipment-wheel loaders, excavators, off-highway truck, and dozers
- Time Management-being able to manage one’s time and those of others, as needed.
- Judgment and Decision Making- considering the costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
- Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment
- Operation Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
- Leadership and Teamwork-sharing knowledge with less experienced techs.
ABILITIES
- The ability to see details at close range
- The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects
- The ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong
- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or holding your arm and hand in one position
EDUCATION
- High School or Equivalent
- Certificate or degree heavy equipment or diesel mechanics preferred
- Two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers.
- Apprenticeship program.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Wear Common Protective or Safety Equipment
- Indoors, not environmentally controlled
- Spend Time Kneeling, Crouching, Stooping or Crawling
